Hatchet and Brandy Cottage

A place of sanctuary & academy

On a quiet lane in a secluded and beautiful valley, lies Hatchet and Brandy cottage. Its origins remain a mystery but we know it has stood within the Blackdown hills for more than 150 years.

The story goes, that a long time ago, smugglers stored casks of brandy at the cottage and when they were discovered, the militia broke open the casks with their hatchets. We hope that these days, time and space at the cottage allows for a rather different pouring out of the Spirit!

Hatchet and Brandy is primarily our home but it is also the base for our work. Hospitality is at the heart of what we do, offering a place of both sanctuary and academy, rest and learning; for leaders, their teams and their families.

Whether it’s chatting around the kitchen table, quiet reflection in the little library, walking in the hills, goal setting in the barn room, gardening in the orchard or sitting by the fire reading and reflecting, our hope is that the cottage will become a thin place for all who stay. Our prayer is that Hatchet and Brandy cottage will be a place where Jesus is encountered and where leaders can rest, be restored, and released so that the church can be reset.
